Reimagining Education: Habitat’s Approach and Philosophy

The story of Habitat began as an innovative preschool that places equal importance on the individual development of both children and teachers. At the core of the school lies a human-centered educational approach that prioritizes experience and play as essential parts of its unique learning model. Habitat aims to offer not only a nurturing environment for children, but also a sense of trust and belonging for families and educators alike. This holistic philosophy is reflected in the way spaces are designed to inspire children, spark curiosity, and encourage collaborative production and exploration.

A New Landmark on the Slope

Set within a sharply sloped site, the campus emerges as a warm and layered contrast against the surrounding housing typology. The modular architecture adapts to the topography rather than leveling it, integrating learning spaces with the natural terrain.

Layered Classrooms, Layered Play

The south-facing terraces cascade down the slope, giving each classroom direct access to the landscape and daylight. The forms reflect a playful architectural vocabulary rooted in movement and transparency.

Gardens as Learning Grounds

Every module opens to garden courtyards, emphasizing nature as an integral part of the learning experience. Shaded by wisteria and vines, outdoor classrooms foster immersive and sensorial learning.

The Gym Beyond Walls

Located deep within the site’s slope, the indoor gymnasium features natural light, timber finishes, and spatial openness to support holistic child development through sports and performance.

A Library that Grows with You

The library is conceived as an evolving space, with shelves and seating that adjust to different age groups, activities, and moods. Natural light and colorful detailing turn reading into an architectural journey.

Dining in Daylight

A bright and airy dining hall supports healthy eating habits and social interaction. The open kitchen and nature-facing seating reflect Habitat’s transparency in food and education.

The Circle of Learning

Early education spaces are designed with flexible soft furnishings and a tactile atmosphere. Organic forms promote movement, curiosity, and cooperative play among the youngest learners.

A Space to Sit, Think, Climb

The central indoor amphitheater doubles as a stage, staircase, and social hub—blurring the boundaries between structure and experience, stillness and play.

Learning in the Forest

The natural timber terrace and canopy garden create a threshold between indoor and outdoor classrooms. Permaculture zones bring ecology into everyday experience.

Digital Design, Flexible Planning, and Sustainability

The Habitat School project was enriched and accelerated through the use of AI-supported digital tools. The design team collaborated closely with Habitat’s leadership through rapid visualizations and scenario analyses. Spatial decisions, material choices, and planning logic were developed in tandem with pedagogical values.

The pixel-based modular strategy allows the campus to adapt and grow across future phases. Natural ventilation, rainwater management, and permaculture gardens integrate sustainability into everyday use. Materials are local, breathable, and ecological. Habitat School emerges as a community campus that is safe, future-ready, and deeply integrated with nature.
